How we use AI — and how you can check us

Artificial intelligence helps us prepare drafts; it never decides anything, and it never signs anything. Every piece of legal work you receive from us is reviewed and signed by a named lawyer — Colin Carroll, Solicitor — who is personally responsible for it. That was our rule before any law required it, and it will stay our rule.

We told you before the law asked

Since 2 August 2026, EU law has required AI-generated content to be identifiable. We welcome this — we have always said plainly when AI helps us. Our engagement letter tells every client, in plain words, how we use AI.

What the AI actually does here

Cross-border inheritance work is document-heavy and detail-heavy: certificates, registers, deadlines, letters in four languages. AI helps us read the papers you send us, draft correspondence and prepare documents faster and more consistently — always working from Carroll Law's own written rulebooks for Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and French succession law. Then a person takes over. Nothing is sent, filed or signed by a machine.

What the AI never does

It never gives you advice directly. It never signs a certificate or an opinion. It never decides who inherits, what a share is worth, or what the law means in your case. Those judgments are legal work, and legal work here is done and signed by the solicitor whose name is on the door — with professional-indemnity insurance behind it in every country where we practise.

The record exists

Every time AI assists on a matter, that use is logged — which document, which step, reviewed by whom — and every draft passes the firm’s own checks before the lawyer reviews and signs it. If you ever want to know which parts of your matter AI helped with, ask us and we will show you.

Why we work this way

Because inheritance matters are about families, money and grief — the last place for guesswork. AI makes us faster at the paperwork; it does not replace the thing you actually hire: a regulated, insured lawyer who answers for the work with his own signature.

Wherever you are

Tell us what’s happened — and we’ll tell you exactly what it takes, and exactly what it costs.

No obligation, and nothing to pay to find out where you stand. A lawyer reads every enquiry personally and replies, usually within one working day. And don’t worry if you don’t have all the paperwork or details yet — most people don’t at this stage. Tell us what you know, and we’ll help you find the rest.
